the potential for applying quality management system iso9001/2000 in hospitals affiliated with medical sciences universities from managers' viewpoints

introduction: applying quality management systems can be useful for the development of health care organizations standards, services, quality improvement and costs reduction. the purpose of this study is to investigate the possibility of applying quality management system iso9001/2000 in hospitals affiliated with medical sciences universities from managers' viewpoints. methods and materials: it was a cross-sectional study in which data were collected by a questionnaire. the questionnaire was checked for its validity and reliability and was distributed among middle and senior managers in census and among first line managers according to stratified random sampling. results: the mean of the potential for applying the quality management system iso9001/2000 in hospitals affiliated with isfahan university of medical sciences was 2.74±0.54. one sample t-test revealed that it was statistically significant cp<0.05). therefore, it is not possible to use quality management system iso9001/2000 in these hospitals right now. conclusion: attempts must be made to pave the way for the establishment of quality management system iso 9001/2000. for instance, by paying attention to the hospital staff's needs, improving the working processes and the clients' satisfaction, conditions can be provided for applying quality management systems in hospitals.
